FAQ for DVD Microphone and Player Owners
New to karaoke? Please take a moment to read.
Most of the problems we are responding to are related to the
type of discs new users are trying to play in their DVD or karaoke players. Please
note the following points when purchasing new music
- Generally, there are 3 types of karaoke discs: CDG, CDGM and DVD
- CDG has no Lead vocals on the disc.
- CDGM will have 2 versions of the same songs. One with lead vocals, one without
lead vocals.
- DVD discs may or may not have lead vocals. It depends on the manufacturer.
- CDG/CDGM discs will play in most CD and DVD players, but you will not be
able to see lyrics on your TV screen. To see lyrics, you must have a CDG Karaoke
machine.
- Some DVD players may be karaoke compatible and will play CDG discs. Most
DVD players purchased through normal retail are not karaoke compatible. Check
your manual before purchasing discs.
- DVD Karaoke discs will not play in a CDG Karaoke machine. They will however
play in a karaoke DVD player or normal household DVD player.
The chart to the right may be useful in determining
what karaoke discs to purchase.
Generally, if you have a DVD Microphone and wish to play karaoke on your home
DVD player, buy DVD karaoke discs.
If you have a 955 or 398 model player, you will want to purchase CDG or CDGM
karaoke discs.

Attn: MM201 Microphone Owners.
If you are having problems with the microphone functioning properly, please switch the RCA cable leads. i.e. Put the DVD end into the TV. Put the TV end into the DVD. The factory mislabeled some microphone cable leads. We apologize for this inconvenience!
Our DVD Mic will not work with our TV/DVD Combo system.
Most TV/DVD combination units do not have inputs to accommodate the DVD microphone
leads. Your only solution is to use your TV/DVD combination unit as either the
TV or the DVD player. Whichever you decide, you will have to get another TV or
DVD player to make a complete unit.
You have a DVD/VCR combo player and cannot get the DVD microphone
to work.
Easiest option is to disconnect the cables for the VCR
and use the unit as a DVD player only. However, that is not necessary. All that
is necessary is that you connect the DVD microphone into the DVD line and make
sure you select that particular Line In option on your TV remote control or menu.
Below is a typical connection schematic for a DVD/VCR Combo player.

The diagram below shows the DVD Microphone connected on the DVD
line. Note: this particular diagram has the DVD player connected on Line #2 for
your TV. Your DVD player may be on Line #1 in your home. Regardless, as long
as you connect on the DVD line, it will work.

Cannot get microphone to work.
Always remember to follow the connection instructions provided with the product.
The RCA cables are tagged and color coded for audio and video. NOTE: Some microphones
may not have a yellow RCA video cable. In this case you would use your existing
RCA cable connecting your DVD player to your TV.
TV and/or DVD player has more than one set of RCA audio/video input/output
ports.
If your units have more than one set of ports, they are likely labeled Line
1, Line 2, etc. We recommend users that are not fluent with these connection
cables to use the same ports your DVD and TV use at present. Likely, that will
be Line 1. Alternatively, you can use Line 2, but you must remember to change
your TV's menu input to Line 2 or the microphone will not work.
Cables are connected properly, but microphone still does not work.
Be sure to slide the switch on the DVD Microphone to ON or ECHO. The Red LED
will glow. Then slide the Volume all the way up for louder Mic output as desired.
Your DVD is connected to the TV with an SVIDEO cable.
You may have to disconnect your SVIDEO cable and use the RCA
cables provided.
Red light will not glow.
Check 9V battery connection or replace if necessary.
General Troubleshooting
The DVD Microphone is very simple device with easy connections.
Basically, the microphone takes your DVD player's audio out and brings it into
the microphone. Inside the microphone is a mixer that will mix the singer's voice
with whatever audio is coming from the DVD player. The microphone then sends
the mixed audio into your TV's audio in port and plays it out the TV's speakers.
Although most of our microphones include a yellow RCA cable for the video, it's
only a convenience cord for the user. You can use your own existing cord and
it would make no difference. We suggest all users having problems to start with
their normal DVD to TV connections. Play a movie. Does it work? If not, you have
some connection issues you need to resolve first. Assuming your DVD player does
play the movie:
A) Disconnect the DVD player's AUDIO OUT cable and replace with
the DVD Microphone's cables.
B) Disconnect the TV's AUDIO IN cables and replace
with the DVD Microphone's cables.
C) Place the DVD Karaoke disc into the DVD
Player and select play D) Turn Microphone on and sing. You should now be seeing
lyrics on your TV screen and the music should be mixing with your voice.
955 Karaoke Players
Player will not play karaoke disc
Look at the top right-hand knob. Make sure it's switched to CDG.
Cannot hear singer's voice
Look at the A.V.C. (Auto Voice Cancel). Turn all the way to the
left (counterclockwise). The AVC may be cancelling too much voice.
558, 559, 560 Karaoke Players
559, 560 - Cannot get enough mic volume.
Open tray, press button to get microphone volume control. Press
'+' increase button until microphone volume is all the way up. Turn master
volume down. Connect microphones to speakers and control volume from there.
560 Owners. Where do I mount the speakers on the stand?
The speaker tray is actually the cup holder tray. You may have
to tie speakers to the stand or tray to ensure they do not get bumped, fall
off and damage speakers.
